Boeing’s spacecraft is stranded!

Ana sayfa / News

Throughout space history, it has always been an area of both curiosity and apprehension for humanity. Humanity has continuously explored the deep and infinite universe, trying to satisfy its curiosity while pushing the boundaries of knowledge. Alongside this exploration, aerospace and space companies have emerged. One of these companies, Boeing, is currently experiencing unfortunate days in the realm of spacecraft. Here are the details…

Boeing’s spacecraft CST-100 Starliner is stranded at the International Space Station (ISS). The vehicle, scheduled to begin its first crewed mission on May 6th, managed to reach the ISS in early June after several delays. However, its return date has been postponed multiple times, and now NASA has announced that Starliner could return no earlier than July 2nd.

The delay is due to helium leaks detected in the spacecraft’s propulsion system. Helium is used to operate its thrusters. This issue was present even before the launch, but it was not considered serious enough to halt the mission. Now, in a turn of events, NASA and Boeing engineers are dealing with this problem, which they initially underestimated.

Astronauts stuck in space! NASA denied Boeing permission

Boeing Starliner return delayed for now. NASA and Boeing's ISS program is experiencing delays.

Michael Lembeck, an aerospace engineering professor at the University of Illinois, says there could be multiple reasons for helium leaks. Parts may have been improperly assembled, or there could be other factors affecting the helium tanks. However, one thing is certain: this problem must be resolved.

There are also concerns about the safety of astronauts Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams aboard the Starliner. However, NASA has stated that there is enough helium for Starliner to return safely. In a press briefing on June 18th, it was stated that the return requires seven hours of helium, and there are 70 hours of helium onboard.

Of course, everything may seem appropriate on paper. However, a different leak problem could lead to very serious issues. Moreover, significant costs could also be incurred. What are your thoughts on this issue? Don’t forget to share your opinions in the comments section.
